    How does naming a character affect me?

    Well, I think naming something gives you power over it, as is the case with any number of things, including drawing techniques, algebraic formulas, behavioral traits, scientific phenomena, etc.

    Why do I need or desire power over my drawings?

    That's a question more difficult to directly answer. Perhaps it has something to do with the need to create meaning for or apply meaning to the things I do, including this or that drawing.
