Superman Despises Your Meaningless Existence!, 2008, mixed media.

Holy cow! I can't believe my luck!

I managed to get my hands on the spread pictured above, which features the following items:

  • a super-rare Action Comics cover
  • a page of crisp original art
  • a pristine pair of finger-puppet playsets

Here's a closer look at the page:

What's that? Doesn't look authentic?

Okay, okay, you got me!

These items were created during the second leg of my PNCA comics intensive. Prompted by an excerpt from My Dinner with Andre, we explored visual narrative on and off the comics page. Local artist Daniel Duford guided our exploration.

Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Batman created by Bob Kane. Superman and Batman, the distinctive likenesses thereof, and related elements are trademarks of DC Comics.

  1. Rock on Jon! Hey that rhymes!
Love this and everything previously posted (love the Raymond-esque Supes' headgear).... you are a highlight of the blog-o-sphere!

Can we see some close-ups of the rest of that vintage super-stuff?

  4. Glad you like what you see, Paul. I don't have any handy close-ups of the other stuff. To be honest, I don't think the cover image holds up to close scrutiny. I continue to be pleased with the finger puppets, however.

Rico and Brian, thanks! I'm personally fond of the blue used in the Batman items.

Jay, thanks for the inquiry about comics stuff. I do have a few individual strips on which I'm working. If enough of them look presentable, perhaps I'll do a small printed collection.

    Thanks again, fellows!
