first pass

Character concept sketches, 2009, graphite.

Displayed in this post are three pages drawn yesterday in my sketchbook. They're all the same fellow, an incidental character.

On this first page, I kind of liked the last in both the top and bottom rows but I think he too much resembles a more prominent character who will appear in the same story.

second pass

Character concept sketches, 2009, graphite.

While drawing on this second page, Broom-Hilda popped into my head. I think you can see her influence (or Myer's, rather) in the face at the top right and the inked face in the middle.

final pass

Here's a final take, with the fellow as he'll likely appear in the story.

  1. Very charming stuff....
The dark elf opening the turtle is AMAZING in its cute and gross factors...

  2. Ha-ha, thanks, Pedro. There should be at least a few such cute-gross elements in the finished story.

  3. Forgive me, Paul, do you have something against stories? ;)

  4. So, so cool.
You manage your line so well... just enough detail. I love it.
